is a peripheral component but it's a major employer in san francisco and there are programs at san francisco state and city college and right now the hotels are restricted to 75 rooms and 25 along folsom and frankly it's just not going to have many hotels built under those restrictions. in fact i would suggest probably none and i think the hotel rooms count need to go beyond townsend and clear need for it. there is not enough in the city and major employer and where you get jobs and no hotels along folsom and they have taken that out of the marketplace, so i think you've got to go upwardos both locations. thank you. >> thank you. >> is there additional public comment? okay. commissioners i will give you an option. if you would like to take a break now this item went longer and more in-depth and take a break with commissioner comments we can do that. i see some heads bobbing. so the commission is going to take a short break and come back to this item. thank you. it to the city of san francisco and had a specification, i'm giving it to the city that will be used forever for the enjoyment forever of the people of the city of san francisco. it has ever since. every summer the stern grove association in san francisco rec and parks put on 10 free concerts. usually people come out at 10 in the morning it's a family affair. everybody is on the lawn with picnics and it's free. anybody can come out. it's a great way to spend a sunday. >> goes to 1-2 in the afternoon and runs until 5. [music]. thanks to the stern grove association they renovated the concert meadow. it used to be a rolling grafsy area. put in a new stage and stage building. they put in terraces. we get from 8,000 to 12,000 people. and the meadow next to the concert meadow is full of people even though they can't see the music they hear it. i walked into the meadow several times and they don't even care. we do have literally events going on day and night. the concert association has kids days during the week. the performers come out for hundred 200 kids. now, the truckadero truck house gets re

'm running in san francisco as supervisor to fix some of the city's most pressing problems. i am very interested in fixing education. i was elected twice by the voters to the community college board where i have been dealing with tough issues, such as corruption, severe budget deficits and mismanagement. i have been able to make tremendous progress on all of these to fix the problems. now we need to return our attention to the city's schools. the city is not doing enough to help the district. we have a, shrinking cool year while the classes are increasing in size. >> i want to address the affordable, the city fees are going up and up and up and small businesses are priced out of the city and i need to work on that. i also am a sierra club activist. for 15 years working in the green energy field, i am a transit activist as well as well as working on parks. so in the environment i need to tell everyone, that muni is a priority, without muni the city will come to a stand still and it is not working properly right now. other cities can do transit systems even with snow and terrible weathe

can see in the building still throughout san francisco city hall flashing lights from the fire alarm which are still going off more than an hour and a half after this call came in. now we have video that was shot a short time ago. you will see light smoke which filled the rotunda as well as the first floor. the fire department brought in fans for ventilation. an electrical panel in the basement blew up and exploded triggering a sprinkler system which then filled a portion of the basement of city hall with about an inch of water. at the time there was a reception going on for green build. that's a green trade show. those people were evacuated. >> we had an electrical explosion in the basement in the electrical room. pg&e just arrived. there was minimal smoke throughout the building. there was a high voltage area, so we can't get anybody inside there until we get the power cutoff. >> it was a calm scene. the alarms went off and the lights were flickering. they asked people to exit the building. >> you saw smoke at that point? >> i never saw smoke until we got out of the building. >> th

city issues that are up, the coalition to san francisco neighborhoods is going against them. we have a city government that's very out of touch in many ways and we're, frankly, annual elections would be very wise to keep the people paying attention it what's happened. we have very strong developer interest, strong lobbyist influence, and very little public interest. things get sidelined and they wonder why things suddenly get opposed like the park bond which is being heavily opposeopposed. >> thank you. supervisor, do you believe having the elections all at one time is better for the electorate or does it get lost when you have so many positions up for election? >> since he did raise the issue of the parks bond, we're not here for that. the parks bond has very overwhelming support. going back to prop d, there's a balance to be struck. i agree if we only had, if we elected everything from president to dog catcher all on 1 ticket at some point it gets to be too much, but if you spread everything out too much, we could have separate elections for like two offices here, two offices t

high school, san francisco city college and ending up at the academy of art university. as a child i remember how exciting it was to ride bart it was first completed and they a nickel to ride a bus. my son nicholas, 23, my daughter mia, 10, because of my professional background i am well-suited to serve the san francisco community and to help you seek consensus. as a board member i would hear every case with an open heart. during my 15 years as a small business owner in the sunset district i have always listened to clients, neighbors and fellow business owners. with that knowledge i believe i have a better understanding after the responsibilities of business owners not only to their patrons but the neighborhood in the community. because of the many relationships are forged over those years in small business it was an easy transition to real estate. most of all i am most proud of the fact that after several hundred transactions of not been a party of any mediation, arbitration or litigation. i feel that because of a professional experience as a realtor for over 40 years

at san francisco's city hall. last night a small fire in the electrical room in the basement triggered the smoke alarms and formed the evacuation of the about. the fire department tells us there's just minor damage to the electrical room and they aren't sure how it started. city hall should be open for business as usual today. >>> sierra lamar's accused killer faces new charges this morning. 21-year-old antolin garcia torres was been charged with trying to kidnap three other victims during three cam,ing in 2009. lamar disappeared in march of this year. torres was arrested in may for her kidnapping and murder even though lamar's body has not been found. >>> we are getting a look at two men suspected of kidnapping a woman and driving her from atm to atm in the east bay. walnut creek police say this video shows two men trying to withdraw money from a woman's account. she told police they grabbed her outside her office threw her in the back of her car. the suspects drove around to at least three other machines before dumping her and the car in the oakland hills. >> this doesn't happen here

to life. san francisco is the only city allowed to park its water in a national park. a hundred years we made that decision and bee think every hundred years san francisco should revisit that decision. there's no down side to that. but you can't do that without also reforming our 19th century water system. it was designed in the 19th century and as a result it's very damaging to the environment. what we do is look at how do we consolidate from 9 reservoirs into 8 and begin to build our local water resources to offset a small percentage of water loss that might happen. let's figure that out. let's not have a conversation based on hypobole, in terms of sean saying there are 7 reports saying it's not feasible, that's not true. what's unfortunate about all those is the city of san francisco has boycotted participating in those studies. san francisco says, wait a minute we have a unique responsibility here. we're the only city that stores our water in a national park so let's see how we can do better because we don't do a very good job. orange county recycles 30 million gallons of water

class city and world class region to host it. as a kid who grew up here in san francisco and in the fall to trek every sunday to candlestick park to watch the 49ers play, now this is such an exciting time that we get to have the chance to host the event that we only got to watch on tv for the past few decades. what an incredible time for our city. even if the super bowl's played down the road in santa clara, for us, these are the san francisco 49ers. always have been, always will be. san francisco 49er fan also be so excited and come together as a region and city behind this. it will have enormous impacts, bringing the neighborhoods together from sunset to bay view. think about the thousands of jobs. hundreds of millions of economic activity for our city. more importantly the opportunity to display san francisco on the world stage. when we had america's cup a few weeks ago, and nbc broadcast the bay and events live on sunday, we couldn't ask for better pr event anywhere than what we achieved that sunday. now we get to do it on the world stage to host the biggest sporting event in the wor

loss in san francisco? >> we are lucky in san francisco that the city does not have regulations as far as licenses and certification is required for tour guides. it is already very open. it is different from the regulations in new york city. that is another market we're in. we're looking forward to allowing san francisco to lead the way by showing the impact our platform can have. we are also really concerned with the tax issue as well. so far, the tax code is really segmented largely for personal and business taxes. the sharing economy presents a nuanced situation. individuals are not businesses but are enjoying a new stream of income. we are interested in having that conversation in a way where we can use the new economy to benefit the city as well as individuals who are proactively taking all entrepreneurship in their own hands to leverage their own resources and knowledge to supplement their income. >> at task rabbit, we're looking to partner with the city and generate more awareness around what we do and how consumers and small businesses can get involved. we have a lot of small b

to health care to education. this measure would get san francisco city government into the business of making home loans. this is part of what brought on the economic crisis at the federal level, fannie mae and freddie mac giving out home loans to people who couldn't afford to buy and later had their houses foreclosed. we don't know what's going to happen in the housing market for the next 30 years. i think it's foolish to set aside increasing set amounts of money for the next 3 decades when we know right now that there's thousands of people living on the streets. why not just build as many affordable units now as possible and do that by getting government out of the way with all its red tape and regulations and taxes and union work rules that increase the cost of housing. that would be a better way to get affordable housing, not bringing back this redevelopment agency with its legacy of driving african americans out of the fillmore and they had slated more than half the bay area for redevelopment before they were shut down. >> anything you'd like to add, peter? >> there's a numb
